Training at Congregation Dor TamidIf you or your organization is concerned about hatred, intolerance, or lack of awareness about the GLBTQ and questioning community, The Rainbow Center can help. We offer workshops and activities designed to increase awareness and to educate members of our community. For our rabbinical community, we have available training addressing Judaic thought on homosexuality. Trained faculty from organizations such as Jewish Family and Career Services, The Rainbow Center and Congregation Bet Haverim lead the courses and activities. Appropriate audiences include schools (both private and public), universities, religious organizations/congregations, youth groups, PTA and other professional organizations including health & human services.

for the Inclusion & Honoring of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning People

GLBTQ 101- Identifying and Implementing Needs

This workshop helps with understanding the unique needs of the Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender students, families and staff as well as outline strategies for creating a truly inclusive experience for everyone.

Understanding Gender and Transgender

This workshop explores society’s influence on gender identity.  It introduces specific issues of concern to transgender people and  how the community can be welcoming regardless of their gender identity and presentation.  

Fostering GLBTQ Inclusion in the Jewish Community

This workshop will enhance participant's understanding of homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism by examining similarities and differences between these and anti-Semitism.  It examines the impact of bias on individuals and society and deepens the Jewish community's commitment and ability to serve as an ally. This workshop can be used as part of an anti-bullying or diversity curricula.  

The Role of Clinicians in the Lives of Older GLBTQ Adults – Rainbow Train

Participants identify needs, concerns and barriers that are optimal in the care for older GLBTQ adults.  Participants apply strategies and communication skills to serve people more effectively.  Resources are provided for learning more and for making appropriate referrals.

Hineini Educational Workshop

This training includes a screening of the Keshet - Boston documentary, Hineini: Coming Out in a Jewish High School followed by a facilitated discussion using materials from the Hineini Curriculum Guide.

Ancient  and Contemporary Text Study

These workshops give an opportunity to delve into ancient and contemporary Jewish texts and commentary that directly and indirectly address issues of sexual orientation and gender diversity.

Suicide Prevention and Healthy development of GLBTQ and all youth

The YES INSTITUTE's! curriculum initiates dialogue and creates support systems for groups to gain skills in non-confrontational communication, training on gender, orientation, leadership and communication.

Creating an Inclusive Camp Experience

This program is designed to be part of staff orientation for summer camps and teen travel programs.  The program addresses the unique needs of the GLBTQ campers and staff as well as outline strategies for creating a truly inclusive experience for everyone.

ALL WORKSHOPS ARE ADAPTED FOR EACH AUDIENCE AND CAN BE MODIFIED FOR GROUPS THAT ARE OF DIFFERENT FAITHS OR NON-SECTARIAN GROUPS.
